“Hannah Free” stars multi-award winner Sharon Gless in a tremendous performance. It tells the moving story of the lifelong love between two very different women, one an independent spirit and the other a home-body. Weaving past and present, the story reveals how they maintained their loving connection from childhood through a marriage, a world war, infidelity and family denial. Now in the same nursing home, this family denial prohibits them from seeing each other near the end of their lives.
This fictional movie was chosen instead of a documentary as a lighter way to illustrate the healthcare situations that elder LGBTQ people face. It is highly recommended viewing for anyone working in, or planning to work in, nursing home care, hospice care or hospital care.
This movie is not rated, but should be suitable for older teens. The movie has won many awards at film festivals. Light snacks are provided but you can also bring your own.
